Big things are already happening at Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD). The new conglomerate, headed by CEO David Zaslav, wants to give its DC Entertainment unit a complete overhaul.

DC Entertainment, which is the comic book and superhero rival to Disney's (DIS) Marvel, has the intellectual property rights to “top-shelf characters” such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and The Flash. Zaslav and his team believe that some of these bigger-name characters need to be revitalized, and secondary characters like Joker and Harley Quinn need more expansive storylines.

Zaslav is reportedly looking to hire an equivalent to Marvel boss Kevin Feige to head DC Entertainment. Several candidates have already been vetted prior to the Warner Bros. and Discovery merger, including top film executive for 20th Century Studios and Paramount Emma Watts.

Why it matters

Revitalizing DC Entertainment is one of a number of goals for the newly-formed Warner Bros. Discovery. Earlier this month, AT&T's (T) WarnerMedia unit merged with Discovery in a $43b deal that has created a significant entertainment rival to Disney and Netflix (NFLX).
