With the pressures of climate change, companies in every sector are rushing to come up with cleaner initiatives to curb their carbon footprints.
Saudi Aramco, the world’s largest oil-exporting company, partnered with South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Group and the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (Kaust) to develop advanced fuels for hybrid vehicles (HV). Using Aramco’s fuel formulation research and technology and Hyundai Motor Group’s ultra-lean gasoline engine, the goal is to lower overall emissions in HVs.
Cars aren’t the only ones looking to lower their emissions, though — aerospace company Airbus has trialed an A380 running on 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The three-hour flight relied mainly on cooking oil and waste fats! Current Airbus aircrafts only partially use SAFs.
Why it matters
The hybrid vehicle market is expected to skyrocket as demand grows. The market stood at $324b in 2021 and is expected to exponentially grow to $1,490b in 2027.
