  • Samsung Electronics reported strong second-quarter results, exceeding expectations with revenue of 74.07 trillion Korean won (about $53.45 billion) and an operating profit of 10.44 trillion Korean won. The company's revenue jumped 23.42% year-over-year, while operating profit surged an impressive 1,458.2%. The robust performance was driven by high demand for advanced memory chips crucial for artificial intelligence, including high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and dynamic random access memory (DRAM). Samsung anticipates continued strong demand for these products, particularly in AI server applications, and plans to expand capacity to meet this need.

  • Looking ahead, Samsung expects its AI-related memory products, such as HBM3E and SSDs, to see increased sales in the second half of the year, further supporting its growth trajectory. The company also announced a dividend payout of 361 won per share, totaling approximately 2.45 trillion won for the quarter. While the smartphone segment experienced a slight decline in demand, particularly in the premium market, Samsung remains focused on promoting its high-end Galaxy AI products. The global availability of its latest devices, including the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6, reflects this commitment.

Why it matters

The company's strong performance in memory chips, particularly those used in AI applications, is a critical driver of its financial success and future growth prospects.
