  • Qatar has more reason to celebrate this week because as well as the World Cup kicking off, QatarEnergy has announced a 27-year natural gas supply deal with China.
  • The China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation will get four million tonnes of liquefied natural gas per year from the state energy company's new North Field East project. Qatar plans to increase its liquefied natural gas production by more than 60% to 126 million tonnes annually by 2027, with North Field at its core.
  • According to the chairman of the Chinese corporation, it also asked for a full share of the North Field South project.

Why it matters

Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, European nations have been more interested in Qatari gas, which is primarily sold to Asian nations led by China, Japan, and South Korea.
