- Infinity Power Holding, a joint venture between UAE's Masdar and Egypt's Infinity announced that its solar power plant developed in Sharm El-Sheikh is ready for operation at COP27, providing renewable energy to the conference which kickstarted over the weekend.
- Infinity Power will generate about 11,723 megawatt-hours (MWh) of energy per year, which can power more than 5,000 homes while also cutting carbon dioxide emissions by over 4,000 tonnes. At the same time, Infinity will provide 18 electric vehicle charging stations in the Egyptian city to facilitate electric vehicle usage during the conference and convey Egypt's support for environmental sustainability. Two other solar plants of equivalent size have also been developed ahead of COP27.
Why it matters
Infinity Power Holding’s initiative is not just limited to the conference - it aims to expand operations across all 54 African countries, mitigate the regional electricity gap, and enable access for the maximum population.
