- Elon Musk says Twitter will soon relaunch a verification feature with multicolored check marks, just weeks after the botched rollout of its paid-for blue check model. The new feature is expected to prevent impersonation accounts from running rampant.
- This time round Twitter intends to manually verify all accounts, however, no detail on this process have been shared. In line with the new process, companies will get a gold checkmark, government officials will get a grey checkmark, and other individuals can get a blue checkmark even if they are not famous. This means that all verified users that have purchased Twitter’s $8/month plan can receive the blue tick.
- On top of these changes, Musk has said that Twitter will manually authenticate all verifications. While this is useful to weed out fake accounts, Twitter’s shrinking workforce will face more pressure to check every verification.
Why it matters
The new verification system aims to weed out fake accounts, but with Twitter's shrinking workforce the company will face more pressure to diligently check every verification.
