Apple's Hot Fix

  • Apple Inc. has addressed recent concerns about some new iPhones becoming excessively hot to the touch, attributing the issue to software and app-related glitches and assuring users that solutions are on the way. The company clarified that the device's warming up during the initial days is a result of the device's intensive setup and data restoration process, stemming from a bug found in the latest iOS 17 software and the strain imposed by certain third-party apps that overload the system.
  • Apple has stated that it is actively collaborating with the developers responsible for the apps causing the iPhone to overheat, and remedies are currently in development. A spokesperson pointed out that apps like Instagram from Meta Platforms Inc., Uber Technologies Inc.'s app, and the game Asphalt 9 have contributed to the device running warmer than usual. Apple noted that Instagram had already resolved the issue with its app on September 27th.

Why it matters

Apple assured users that the forthcoming software fix will not involve slowing down the processor of the latest iPhone models. Furthermore, the company also clarified that the use of a USB-C charging, the new standard included with the latest models, is not responsible for the problem. However, it did acknowledge that the use of a high-wattage charging adapter, those offering speeds above 20 watts, could temporarily make iPhones feel warmer than usual.
