Meta’s (FB) mega data center is going "green" from blue. You see, it currently operates European data centers in Ireland, Denmark, and Sweden; however, this time, it's careful not to upset the Dutch government concerned with the environmental impacts of such large-scale projects. Meta’s plans to create a new data center in Zeewolde, in the Netherlands, come with a promise to run entirely on renewable energy.
Google (GOOGL), in 2021, canceled its plans to build three new data centers in the Netherlands after local pushback. Meta, watch out.
Why it matters
This is expected to be Netherland’s largest data center and will support over 1,000 construction and operational jobs — a big win for its economy!
