  • The first UAE Cabinet meeting of 2023 was presided over by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, at Qasr Al Watan Abu Dhabi. Five government priorities were adopted for 2023 during the meeting. These priorities are creating a sense of national identity, improving environmental sustainability, growing international economic partnerships, and upgrading the educational system.
  • The National Strategy for Desertification, which contains 33 significant initiatives and a national action plan until 2030, was also approved by the UAE Cabinet. The plan of action emphasizes ecosystem preservation, arid and dryland improvement, and reducing and adapting to the effects of climate change on ecosystems impacted by desertification.
  • In an effort to develop and promote the nation's space industry, encourage foreign investment, and draw in domestic and international capital, the cabinet approved the release of a decision to control permits for space operations and space-related activities.

Why it matters

Over 900 decisions, 22 government programs, 68 federal legislation, 113 national regulations, and 71 foreign agreements have been approved or established by the Cabinet. The government assembled more than 120 teams in the previous year, made up of 110 federal, municipal, and 50 private sector organizations, to work on modernizing more than 100 federal laws pertaining to social, economic, educational, and regulatory matters.
