Cloud seeding by Microsoft (MSFT) — this time with Sega, proud founder of popular video game titles such as “Sonic the Hedgehog” and the critically acclaimed “Total War” series — is exploring producing large-scale global games in a next-gen dev environment built on Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform.
The news sent Sega’s shares trading at 5.51% higher on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. On a side note, Microsoft recently smashed its Q3 earning expectations with strong cloud performance, making it the tech company that just keeps on giving.
Why it matters
Sarah Bond, Corporate Vice President at Microsoft, comments that this strategic alliance will explore unique gaming experiences, and reimagine how games get built, hosted, and operated, with a goal of adding more value to players and SEGA alike.
