Saudi Arabia’s second-biggest poultry producer Tanmiah Food Group is eyeing the plant-based meat trend. A large competitor in the MENA region for fresh chicken and processed meat production, the Riyadh-based company is contemplating the launch of plant-based meat in its UAE market as the popularity of beef in the region has started to decline. Although chicken remains ever-popular, the diverse population of the UAE and the rising inclination toward plant-based meat has given Tanmiah the perfect idea for a new venture.
Back in August, the McDonald’s (MCD), Burger King, and Subway food supplier raised $107, through an IPO. The company had vowed to take its halal products to the next level by looking not only at the local but the regional and global markets as well.
Why it matters
Capitalizing on its leading position in the food industry in the region, Tanmiah has the advantage of an existing distribution network to push through whatever product it comes up with. Beyond Meat (BYND), you've been warned!
