WeWork (WE), is looking to test the waters and become a tech company, again. Was it ever one in the first place?

The flexible workspace provider has decided to roll out WeWork Workplace, a tool that lets employers manage their workers by booking conference rooms, coordinating desk usage, and tracking which workspaces are used most often. It's teaming up with Yardi Systems, which provides property management software for landlords and homeowners.

As people slowly head back to the office, businesses are adopting a more flexible hybrid model will look for space utilization strategies for their employees. WeWork hopes that managers who don't rent office space from WeWork might still use its tools for their own hybrid or remote work models.

Why it matters

WeWork (WE) has changed quite a bit since its failed efforts to go public in 2019 under former CEO and Co-Founder Adam Neumann. Since, the rapid adoption of the flexible hybrid work model has forced businesses to rethink and optimize their office and space utilization strategies.
