These days, Elon Musk and his shenanigans have kept us more interested than any romantic comedy series… will he, won’t he?
Well, now it seems that his deal with Twitter (TWTR) is on hold until he obtains more information regarding the number of bogus (aka bot) accounts on the platform. Musk also criticized Twitter’s manipulative algorithm and encouraged users to disable their algorithmic feed generator.
In a filing earlier this month, Twitter calculated that bots and spam accounts made up less than 5% of its monetizable daily active users.
Why it matters
Yesterday, Musk admitted that his purchase of Twitter could fall through and that a lower price was not out of the question, fuelling speculation on Wall Street that he is revising his offer. If the deal is called off by Musk, he will have to pay a $1b breakup fee — not much of a dent to his $220b fortune.
